Waiver Agreement

I understand that participating in hikes, walks, outdoor events, group trips, travel, and related activities with GVL Roots & Routes: Black Hikers involves certain risks. These risks may include, but are not limited to, slips, trips, falls, uneven trails, steep terrain, weather changes, wildlife, dehydration, accidents, personal injury, property damage, loss of personal belongings, or other unexpected conditions.

I understand that hiking and outdoor activities can be physically demanding and that risks cannot always be prevented. I choose to participate voluntarily and accept responsibility for my own safety, health, preparation, physical condition, and personal belongings.

I release and hold harmless GVL Roots & Routes: Black Hikers, its founder, officers, organizers, hike leaders, volunteers, members, and representatives from claims, injuries, damages, losses, expenses, property damage, or monetary loss that may occur before, during, or after my participation in any group activity.

I agree to follow safety instructions given by hike leaders or organizers. I understand that I am expected to act respectfully toward others, stay with the group when required, protect the natural environment, and make safe decisions during group activities.

In the event of an emergency, I authorize organizers, hike leaders, or volunteers to seek medical assistance on my behalf if I am unable to do so. I understand that I am responsible for any medical costs or related expenses.

I, the undersigned parent or legal guardian, give permission for the minor named above to participate in activities, hikes, trips, events, and related travel with GVL Roots & Routes.

In my absence, I authorize GVL Roots & Routes leaders, organizers, or designated representatives to make reasonable decisions concerning the safety, supervision, and well-being of the minor during the event. This includes taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency, injury, illness, unsafe conditions, weather concerns, transportation needs, or any situation where a decision must be made to protect the minor.

I understand that GVL Roots & Routes may travel to locations outside of South Carolina for group activities or events. By signing this waiver, I give permission for the minor to travel outside the state with GVL Roots & Routes for approved group events, provided that I have given permission for the minor to attend that specific event.

I understand that this authorization does not remove my responsibility as the parent or legal guardian, and I acknowledge that participation in outdoor activities involves certain risks. By signing, I confirm that I have the legal authority to grant this permission on behalf of the minor.
